Some Sad Good Byes

We had to say "Good Bye" this week
to a few very important things.

First being our hope of ever
getting a faster Internet speed.

True.....after trying all the
providers we know of, we have
come to the conclusion that
there is no higher speed
available in our little corner
of the world.

I find that so hard to believe but
that is what we have been told.

So "Good Bye" hopes of ever
enjoying faster visits to all of our
blogging friends.  (However, we are not
going away, we are just going to
be eyes only.  We will try and
comment as often as we have time
for.  We might try emailing)
The Second very very sad "Good Bye"
was to my sweet friends Baci
and Logan.  They moved far far
away to Colorado.    We miss them
tons and tons.
Third and more painful than you
can imagine, we had to say "Good Bye"
to five of our shade trees that were
killed by a beetle last fall.

Brutal little buggers, those beetles.
We depend so much on our shade trees
here at Canine Country Club.

Yes we still have 17 big beautiful
shade trees and considering the
temperatures have already
reached 98 degrees with a prediction
of over 100 for the next ten days,
The play area that they sheltered has
become almost unusable.
You might not be able to tell from
the picture but three of the trees were
about 50 feet tall and they were
so perfectly green and beautiful
every year.  And they were homes to
many many species of birds who
greeted us each morning with
their songs of happiness.
 Watching them  being carried away
through the air by the big crane
actually brought tears to My Vickie's
eyes.   As they took their last
look down on the kennel we sent
our thanks for all the wonderful time
that they shared with us.
And finally, we said "Good Bye" to
my new little friends.....the foxes.
The pups are now hunting on their own
and with the summer campers and hikers
moving closer and closer to their
den, mom and the kids have
decided it is time to leave.

We sure hope to get glimpses of them
in the future and if we are lucky enough
to get a picture, we will be sure to post it.

So, enough of the "Good Byes"
I think it is time to take a dip in
the river.  Man is it hot.....

Love
Bert

  1. Goodbyes are always difficult. We avoid them like the plague. Sorry, we have no wise words to offer. It just hurts.

  6. It does seem crazy in this modern world that you can't get a decent Internet service we sure miss your posts as we love seeing all your adventures

That would of made my mom cry to watching those trees cut down...she is a real tree fanatic.

  7. Oh Bert, we're so sorry you had all these good-bye's to deal with. It's horrible that you can't get a quicker internet connection especially in this day and age.

I know that you are VERY sad your good furends had to move far, far away. I hope that you will keep in touch with them.

And like what's up with those nasty beetles? How dare they eat all those beautiful tree's. We hope that maybe someday they will grow once again.

Hope to see you much happier soon Bert!

    Hugs,
    Lily Belle & Muffin

  8. What a very sad week. Sometimes it seems life is so much about saying goodbye. The foxes were a gift to you from nature but they had to grow up of course. Currently our house is shaking periodically from the force of our neighbor's huge trees falling to the ground. It is eerily like the sound the night a hurricane toppled one of them into our house. So we are glad to see them go but sad too. We'll miss the shade and their beauty. I really can't watch. They are beautiful trees.

  12. You are well aware that as soon as you leave the Salt Lake valley, there is absolutely No Hope of getting decent internet or reliable cell service (Have you ever tried to make more than a 15 second call on highway 84? Totally not possible...). The true tragedy is those trees - it's never good to lose trees, but when it's SO HOT it's catastrophic! Stay cool, my friend!

  14. Maybe you can spend some time in your Bert-Bathtub when it is hot?
I will waiting for you and for every Bert did it -post. We sadly had problems with our internt speed too and had to switch to a cellphone provider. I feel sorry for your trees, it's always sad to see when such a giant is falling.

  15. Hey Bert!
Wow, I'm so sad about all of this, but I'm totally thrilled you are not going away. See us whenever you can. Definitely sorry about those trees, but at least you still have beautiful ones left and those little foxes are off on their own. Maybe they'll come back. Chin up, buddy and hit the water! Kayabungaaaaa!

  16. I feel your pain about the trees. We had to cut down many oak trees by our cabin (30+ and more this year). All were lost to oak wilt. Nothing to do but cut them down. Our cabin in the woods is less so (luckily we still have the pines).

Sorry to hear about your internet. Slow internet is a pain.

  17. Goodbyes indeed but definitely not of the worst kind, which is a relief to your readers! As long as you are healthy and happy, that's the main thing for us!

But never say never for Internet access!

  18. Oh dear, you had a sad week. The trees, oh how it hurts me to see the trees removed. They provide so much and to try and replace a tree that size is so expensive. Sigh.

  19. Aw Bert you look so very sad...Goodbyes are tough and you've had too many of them this week..Never fear we'll all be coming by to visit you, read about your adventures and see all your gorgeous photos

  20. That was kind of a sad post. We said a goodbye today here at the estate. Goodbye to all our beautiful cherries which got eaten by black rot. Poor master has all his canning jars ready too.

And yes, it is way too hot.

    Kisses,

  24. HI Y'all!

Oh Bert, I was just saying to Goose that y'all best take your persons into the water with you!

We understand s l o w Internet! Supposedly high speed Internet was going to be available to everyone. Somehow I think they left the every off of the one...they put all the lines in and attached them to our house and to the neighbors homes...the man said we'd notice a great improvement in our access...When Mister? When? The lines are laying there, buried...but the access hasn't gotten one iota better.

Paws crossed that the heat will abate quickly where you are! I have a terrible feeling it is headed this way though!

Y'all come back when you can,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  28. Oh, those are some sad goodbyes, Bert :(

I hope you will have some very happy hellos coming up soon to make up for the goodbyes! I wonder how long it takes for a tree to grow 50 feet tall...

  29. Sad indeed, all of them. The weather here has cooled down, clouds and wind. I hope it cools down some for you too.
I have a feeling you will see those little kits all grown up on your hikes one day.

  30. That's too many goodbyes all at once. The foxes, ah the foxes. What sweeties, and what a gift to have been able to watch them.

I'm so sorry about the shade trees - so sad. Although you'll miss your friends, I hope that they like Colorado.

  31. I don't like good-byes. I will keep my hopes up that ONE DAY you wil get faster internet.

    Happy 4th you guys!

  32. I know what you mean about the internet speed. Ours isn't so great either, but I hope that sometime you'll find that faster speed and it will be sooner, rather than later--We are reminded how attached to you we are since we just found you again! :-) Take care, and know that you are thought of in my time zone!

  33. Bert,
I don't care about you commenting on my posts; as long as I can see your posts, that makes me really happy! Aw, that's really sad about your friends, they look lovely. I'm sure you have lots of other friends though to play with! And what a shame about the trees! Those beetles sound really evil, will you be planting anymore trees?
It's been about 67 degrees here (Fahrenheit) and I'm finding it crazily hot, so I can't imagine 100!!
Enjoy that dip in the river,
    Pippa :)

  35. Do you not have a satellite internet service? It's the perfect answer to those who live in 'out of the way' areas, and usually costs about the same as a phone line connection.
