Yes it is true. I am still alive and well.
It is getting on to summer here and we
spend every minute we can, outside
enjoying our beautiful weather.
It is 8:30 at night and My Vickie still has
several hours of work to do before we
hit the sack, but she just couldn't go
one more month without participating
in "See Beautiful"Friday.
An our "See Beautiful" for today is:
For weeks we have been watching as a
little bird has laboriously built a beautiful
nest in our hanging planter on the porch.
Then one day at a time, we would see
one egg laid until five little eggs were
present in the little nest.
Because our little momma has built a nest
in a very high traffic area with a few pups
who love to catch and eat little birds and
of course Allred who is patiently waiting for his
chance too, My Vickie has slowly, day by
day moved the little hanging planter to what
she hopes will be a safer area.
Finally two days ago we looked in to see
two little babies hatched. (I have to say
they are ugly little critters) but I guess we
cant all come out looking as good as me.
One more day and now we have four babies.
We expect to see the last baby chick out of
his egg tomorrow.
Now we have to build a special pathway for
the little ones to follow when they leave the nest
in a few weeks. Somewhere safe and away
from Ellie and Allred. (Our killer friends)
My Vickie is going out tomorrow to buy a tree
that we will plant AFTER the chicks have left
the nest but we will put the little tree under the nest
so that when they leave the nest, they wont fall
onto our cement below them.
Boy who knew that this could all be so involved.
And that is what makes it BEAUTIFUL.
When ever you make an extra effort to be
a part of this world, something beautiful happens.
We can't just sit back and wait for the beauty.
Well we can, but some things are more beautiful
when you work hard for it.
Enough talking.....go out and find something
Beautiful today. We love and miss you all.
Bert and My Vickie

That is great that you have made it safer for the birdies. We love our birds too.
ReplyDeleteOH BERT.... it is just FANGtastic to hear from you. You can NOT imagine how much WE ALL miss you.. and heck we are even missin' Allred ... just a bit.
ReplyDeleteOH what a FABULOUS... See Beautiful Post this is. We love how it is all put together and we can see the Eggs and then the babies... We hope that they all survive and thrive.
WE MISS YOU BERT.
Bert!!!!!!!!!!!! We have missed you!!!!!! this is beautiful! Mom says that for several years we would have killdeers lay their eggs in our BIG yard - right on the ground. they would mark the spot somehow so when they mowed the lawn they would not harm them. When they hatched mom could see the babies running around early in the morning. she thinks it was the same pair that came every year but sadly not for a few years now. There was one in the yard yesterday and Mom was excited.
ReplyDeletehugs - great to see you!

That's a wonderful story. We hope all of those little birds make it to adulthood and come back to raise families there, too.

How wonderful to see you again, Bert. And yes, the babies are beautiful. And your Vickie is beautiful for helping the mother bird keep them safe.
ReplyDeleteDose birdies sure are funny lookin!
ReplyDeleteHey Bert!
ReplyDeleteWow, I think it's See Beautiful to see you here! I miss you something fierce. A few years ago, we had a robin nest in a hanging fuscia basket and got to watch them hatch and grow. What a fun experience to see them as they get bigger! Thanks for letting us see these and I'm wondering what kind of birdies they'll turn out to be.
Grr and Woof,
Sarge, Pol Comm
I am SO happy to see a post from you! That is truly beautiful... I'm so glad that you've been shepherding that little family to a safe place. I think the hatchlings are beautiful, but, of course, not as beautiful as Bert!
