Back from Alaska and let me just say,
That is a truly beautiful place.
Bert was not too happy about my
leaving and I hear he was a bit pouty
but he also had a great time staying
with Goose for two nights and with
Zero for one night.
Just before we left my sister
sent us an email of what had
landed in the trees above her
house. At first I was a bit nervous
thinking it was a bad omen, but
come on.....they are just birds....
Right????
The day before I left I made
it a point to spend a lot of
quality time with Bert, but he
knew something was up. Even
when we were at the pond, he
hung his head over the rail
looking as sad as he possibly could.
Yes, I felt a little guilty, that is until
I got to Alaska. Oh my is that a
beautiful beautiful place.
We stopped every few miles on
our way to Seward from Anchorage
hiking up into the back country.
There was waterfalls around
every turn, and like Bert
I like to see where they all
start their journey downward.
I was prepared to see all kinds
of animals both in the water
and on the land.
I was not disappointed.
I am a total moose fan, I
follow the moose in our area
closely monitoring their
everyday lives. I love their
gentle spirits, there big
dreamy eyes. But the moose
in Alaska are a whole different
breed than I was used to seeing
and the only word I can use for
them is Magnificent.
Sea Lions, Otters, Seals
whales, porpoises, orcas...
all and more around
every turn.
And yes, we got to meet
the famous Ryker. Oh he
and Bert would have had so
much fun.
Glaciers were everywhere
and to hear and see one
calve will set your soul to
quivering. Oh the power
And Yes, it is the land of
the Midnight Sun. This is
the sunset at one am. I waited
for it to get darker but the sun
then ran parallel along the
horizon leaving an hours worth
of this view before it started to
rise back up into the sky.
I must go back.
